Portrait of a Kayan Lahwi woman with brass neck coil and traditional clothing. The young girl, her daughter, wears also the traditionnal neck coils but smaller and adapted to her age (8 years old). She will remove it when she goes back to school and if she still wants and her neck allows it, she will put on more spirals when she gets older. The Long Neck Kayan (also called Padaung in Burmese) are a sub-group of the Karen ethnic people from Burma. They are also nicknamed 'giraffe women'.
