Illinois is a great place to study coyotes. Approximately 30,000 coyotes live in the state of Illinois, with over 2,000 coyotes living in Cook County alone. Here, and in many other parts of the country, coyotes seem to have adapted extremely well to living in urban and suburban habitats. Coyotes are even denning right next to condominium complexes and shopping centers. For over 12 years, Dr. Stanley Gehrt and his team have collared and monitored coyotes in the Cook County area. His study is the longest running and most respected study of urban coyotes in the country. Suzi brings us along on a research mission to chip, measure and evaluate coyote pups with Dr. Gehrt.
