Nearly halfway between Norway and the North Pole the Svalbard Islands share their natural resources with Russia as well as serving as one of the Far North's riches wildlife sanctuaries. This region receives so little rain and snowfall that it is considered a polar dessert yet it hosts a rich botanical and wildlife population. Dwarf Reindeer, Bearded Seals and Thick-billed Murres call this northern location their home.
