Chase Dekker, one of our newest photographers, brings us a fresh photo collection of wild red foxes from Washington. Siblings of different fur color variations play in the wildflowers, hassle their parents and finally crash out for a nap in the grass. Looks like mom (vixen) and dad (dog) are good providers for their young (kits). We see evidence of their hunting skills as they bring captured rabbits to feed their rambunctious family group.

The red fox on this island were introduced decades ago to help control the exploding rabbit population, which was also introduced....genius! Overall, the introduction has worked out as both populations seem to thrive now, living right on top of each other. The red fox here are actually part of the Cascade red fox subspecies group where one can find the mixed coloration of silver, black, red, orange, blonde, and so on. The colors come from a wild type gene that has been passed down on the island for generations.
