In Borneo's rainforest exists a special care facility for orphaned orangutans called the Orangutan Care Center and Quarantine (OCCQ). Suzi Eszterhas is the only professional stills photographer who has been allowed behind the scenes of this special center - she brings us a fresh selection of images to share.
The OCCQ teaches orphan orangutans all the skills they need to live in the wild. It takes six to nine long years for an orangutan to learn these skills - the same amount of time they would be with their mother in the wild. Over this time a group of dedicated surrogate human mothers will teach the orphan how to socialize with other orangutans, how to climb trees safely, how to find wild food, how to makes nests for sleeping and much more.
