Honeybees (144) More files... by Heidi and Hans-Jurgen Koch
The honeybee is the third most important domestic animal in Europe and the USA due to its invaluable contribution for the fertilization of fruit trees and crop plants. The alarmingly high bee mortality, partly of catastrophic dimensions, presently observed in Germany, Spain and in the USA is a major economical and scientific challenge for honeybee health research.

Heidi and Hans-Jurgen Koch's story centers around research into the health of Honeybees with the BEEgroup at Wurzburg University in Germany. By studying bee pathogen resistance they are hoping to develop the means to prevent CCD (Colony Collapse Disorder) among healthy populations of the insects.
