Fernandina Volcano (57) More files... by Tui De Roy
The explosion of the volcanic tower Fernandina turned the Galapagos Islands into a display of purple clouds, gray-green lava waves and bright orange glowing lava cascading into the ocean. Silent for 170 years the volcano wrought havoc on local wildlife - iguanas bursting into flame, seal pups baldly burned in the roiling water and seabirds drawn to the bonanaza of dead fish only to succumb to fumes themselves.
