A downy emperor penguin chick basks in the attention of its parents as they bow in ritual greeting. Adults and chicks huddle together against the blast of icy winds. Platoons of parents march and toboggan a hundred miles to feed in open water only to retrace the same arduous journey upon catching their fill. Aside from the odd scientist of tourist, few other creatures endure the elements to witness this remarkalbe spectacle. Largest of the penguin species, emperors are indeed the undisputed lords of the Antarctic.
