Brown Pelicans (91) More files... by Tui De Roy
On the Galapagos Islands the mangrove forests are prime habitat for nesting, feeding, mating and grooming of local Brown Pelicans. The pelican is indeed the only bird in the world with a built in dip-net to catch its dinner. This adaptation underwent its evolutionary fine-tuning so early on that pelicans have remained virtually unchanged for some 20 to 30 million years. Tui captures the birds diving for fish, building nests and rearing their young on this remote island paradise.
